At Hangar 6, we pride ourselves in partnering with companies that are masters of their craft.  This year we are proud to serve Spring 44 bourbon whiskey at Hangar 6.  These guys take a lot of pride in their spirits – just one taste and it is obvious.  Their philosophy is simple – use the best water on the earth to produce some of the finest spirits on earth.  It all starts from a high mountain spring over 9,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains.   Spring 44 bottles their bourbon in Loveland, Colorado.

“The incredible attributes of our water impart a profound smoothness and taste to our spirits.”

The Story behind it all:

On a beautiful summer night two lifelong friends, Russ and Jeff, made their traditional hike to a virgin spring for a midnight drink under the stars. The tradition of drinking directly from the spring started when Jeff was a small boy. In 1969 Jeff’s father purchased property in an extremely remote area in the northern Colorado Rocky Mountains that held the unique distinction of being completely surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest. Drinking from the spring at 9044′ was always a coveted activity. The water so cold, so pure, fresh from the earth always tasted extraordinary and provided a visceral connection to nature. On this particular night, inspiration occurred. Russ exclaimed: “This is the best water on earth, it’s liquid energy! Do you know what we have here?!”

And an idea was born. What if we could share this incredible resource with others and build a business that would provide a model for a way of life? They pondered that for a while.  Then they created Spring44, after its namesake.

They spell it out on their website in no uncertain terms that they went to Kentucky and bought their Bourbon from distillers there. Many micro ‘distillers’ are looking to Kentucky and Indiana to purchase bulk Rye and Bourbon and then bottling it without letting customers know where it was distilled. Rob distills the vodkas and gins in Loveland but they do the ethical thing and let everyone know that they sourced their Bourbon from Kentucky. It’s delicious, and very well selected, but not distilled in Loveland.

You are 100% right Kevin. It was an slight oversight on our part. We were trying to highlight the fact that Spring 44 distills MOST of their spirits in Loveland. Sorry we love Spring 44 and were not trying to mis-represent them, they are very ethical and honest about how all their products are made.
